Do you know that the so-called harlequin is a very old and once extremely popular decoration for glass baubles?
The original that served as the inspiration for this pattern is, of course, much older than the history of all Christmas tree ornaments. This is the figure of the famous jester, Harlequin, from the 17th-century Italian commedia dell'arte. His traditional costume was made of colorful triangles or rhombuses. In the history of Christmas tree baubles, this pattern played a huge role and was used not only on round baubles, but also on elongated shapes, peppers, peaks and on baubles with reflectors.
