We are certainly all familiar with the gorgeous Renaissance Birth of Venus, painted by Sandro Botticelli.
The beautiful goddess of love and fertile forces of nature emerges from sea waves, standing on a large shell. And it is this shell that has become, since the times of ancient Greeks, the most important attribute of this goddess. The shell symbolised the life-giving water and was a sign of real happiness.
